Second, public assistance, economic activity, annual income, home ownership had significantly effect on suicide ideation in poor older people. Depression, self-esteem, gender, age, household type were associated with suicide ideation. Third, on the other hand, annual income was the only economic factor with a significant effect on suicide ideation in non-poor older people. And they were affected by the variables such as depression, self-esteem, life satisfaction, chronic disease, age, marital status, household type. In sum, this study found that suicide ideation in non-poor older people was significantly associated with their physical health and marital status. Suicide ideation of poor older people, however, was more strongly associated with economic conditions such as poverty, job status, income and home ownership. Psychological factors such as depression and self-esteem verified predictors on suicide ideation irrespective of poverty. Implications and limitation were discussed based on the study findings.
